“The Marshall Mint began minting operations in Virginia City, Nev., in 1991 to offer a quality of jewelry and ‘proof-like’ minted product rarely found today by the public,” according to the mint's website.

I can attest to the excellence of the mint’s products. My lovely wife Kathleen and I have bought quite a few coins and ingots from Marshall Mint. The mint doubles as a museum of sorts.

“The Marshall Mint quickly expanded operations and by 1992 started offering a full line of custom gold and silver medallions, nuggets, collector coins and currency, bullion, jewelry and a world-class mineral and gem museum.”

Unfortunately, the mint is open on the days I’m least likely to visit Virginia City, so I haven’t been able to obtain more information about the mint yet.

I also found an old Marshall Mint building in a location between K and L streets, off Union. It is a large building, too.

I would like to know more about that building and when it was used by the mint. If you have information, please email it to me.

If you visit Virginia City, be sure to visit the Marshall Mint. It is a treasure trove, filled to the brim with shiny gold and silver coins, stunning jewelry, and captivating stories from the Old West ~ all told through the coins, ingots and jewelry and any stories the friendly folks at the store tell you.

As you step through the door, the shiny ingots in the front of the store will catch your attention. I am not sure of the current availability, but what caught our attention were the wild mustang and V&T railroad ingot series.
