Peace Rose, formally Rosa "Madame A. Meilland," developed by French horticulturist Francis Meilland. When Francis Meilland foresaw the Nazi invasion of France, he sent cuttings to friends in Germany, Italy, Turkey & the USA to protect it for posterity. There are accounts that say the cuttings left on the last-available aircraft before the Nazi invasion. Eventually, Conard Pyle Co. propagated thie beautiful rose during World War II.
