1928 Minerva AM Convertible

This 1928 Minerva AM Convertible town cabriolet was photographed t The Nethercutt Collection in Sylmar, Calif. It won the best-of-show award at the 1978 Santa Barbara Concours d’Elegance.

It was manufactured by Minerva Motors of Antwerp, Belgium. The coachbuilder was Floyd-Derham Co. of Philadelphia, Penn.

The six-cylinder sleeve-valve engine’s horsepower would reach 32cv at full power.

Nethercutt said that Minerva is Belgium’s most famous marquee.

“This car is the only known product of the Floyd-Derham coach-building firm,” Nethercutt notes in a vehicle display summary. “This beautiful town cabriolet was once owned by U.S. World War I Army Gen. Billy Mitchell, who is regarded as the ‘father of the U.S. Air Force. He is one of the most-famous and –controversial figures in the American military.”
