William Stanley Haseltine (1835-1900) painted "Mont Saint-Michel" in 1868. This painting was photographed at the de Young Museum in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. It was a gift to the museum from Mildred Anna Williams' Collection.

"Having studied art at the Dusseldorf Academy in Germany, the Philadelphia-born William S. Haseltine returned to Europe in 1866, funded by an auction of his paintings," according to the de Young Museum. "He settled in Rome, paining predominantly European subjects and exhibiting only rarely in the United States. This view depicts the medieval Mont Saint-Michel Abbey in Normandy, France.
