This 1939 Ford Deluxe Station Wagon was featured at the 2011 Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance in the San Francisco Bay Area.

“In contrast to other manufacturers that relied on custom coachbuilders to fabricate bodies for their station wagons, Ford bought half a million acres of Michigan’s Iron Mountain Forest in 1929 to construct theirs and consequently came to dominate this category,” according to the car owner’s summary.

“Scrap wood and sawdust left over from the process were used to manufacture charcoal briquettes in nearby Kingsford, Minn.

“Ford continued to evolve the mechanical and design of its 1939 models. It increased the frontal area of the radiator to improve cooling, upgraded the crankshaft and bearings of the L-head 221ci V-8 engine and, finally bowing to modernity, Henry Ford allowed hydraulic brakes on most models.”

The Ford’s owner acquired it in 2009 and restored it to its factory condition. In 2011, it was awarded first class at the Palo Alto Concours d’Elegance.
