Mark 11:22-23Verse from Mark 11:22-23. The "mountain" is actually Machete Ridge at Pinnacles National Park in San Benito County and on the eastern edge of Salinas Valley in Salinas County, Calif. My apologies for the name on a Bible quote post, but that is the name of the mountain. It is a famous mountain-climbing location. It is also a vital habitat for the California Condor, which my wife and I have seen many times.

Mark 11 24-25Verse from Mark 11:24-25. The rose is Royal Amethyst, which is the sweetest, most-fragrant rose I've ever encountered. I photographed it while I operated a flower photography business in Silicon Valley when we lived in Cupertino for about nine years, as my wife Kathleen finished her civil-service career as a city clerk.

We had moved there after the daily newspaper I co-founded collapsed after the Second Great Depression of 2007-8 erased most of our advertisers.

I had grown up and worked on the North Coast of California (Humboldt and Del Norte counties) nearly my entire life, so Silicon Valley with its rushed and often utterly rude populace was a culture shock to me.

Fortunately, I'm back to a smaller town by American standards in Carson City, Nev., where we moved to be near my wife's family. And, where it's much more friendly and neighborly.

Anyway, Royal Amethyst is a mauve or mauve-blend hybrid tea rose, according to HelpMeFind, which I am a paid member of.

It was registered as DEVmorda but its exhibition name is, of course, Royal Amethyst. Introduced by DeVor Nurseries Inc. in 1989, the official fragrance is listed as "strong and fruity."

It's a large rose at maturity with 32 to 35 large, double blooms that continue throughout the rose-growing season.

It isn't a rather tall rose, growing to a height of almost five feet in some conditions; however, I usually saw it around three feet tall.

It grows in USDA zones 7B and warmer.
