Magnolias Are Early Bloomers

After growing up and working most of my professional life in Humboldt County, Calif., my wife Kathleen and I moved to Cupertino in Silicon Valley in 2009. After the daily newspaper I co-founded failed in the financial crisis of 2008-09, I began a new photography business, The Flower Photographer.
Some of the earliest blooming flowers were different varieties and colors of magnolia. The best places to view them, other than finding big bloomers on city blocks and rural roads, were Golden Gate Park, Filoli and Hakone Gardens.
I photographed white, yellow-white, pink and purple magnolias. I really miss them. They started blooming in late winter and really picked up in very early spring. Please sample my magnolia photos in the slideshow below.
