This 1955 Ford Thunderbird convertible was manufactured in Detroit, Mich., and cost $3,475. It was photographed in 2014 at The Nethercutt Collection in Sylmar, Calif.

"The 1955 Ford Thunderbird was designed and built in response to rival Chevrolet's exciting new 1954 Corvette," according to The Nethercutt Collection's vehicle summary. "The Thunderbird, with V-8 power and roll-up glass windows, immediately outsold the Corvette. Ford described the car as a true high-performance car with all the convenience of a family sedan."
